STEM Field Trips
STEM field trips at THE RINK SACRAMENTO
A field trip built around a skating floor isn’t the usual clipboard-and-worksheet outing, and that’s the point. Every wobble, push-off, and near-fall your students hit is a physics lesson happening in real time, whether they notice it or not.

Why it works
A SCIENCE LESSON ON EIGHT WHEELS
Push off the wall too hard and you’ll shoot forward faster than expected, that’s force and mass working exactly the way Newton described them. Lean into a turn and stay upright, that’s balance and center of gravity doing their job in real time. None of this needs to be explained on a whiteboard first. Students feel the concept happen before we ever put a name to it, and that order tends to stick better than the reverse
The questions that put a class to sleep on a whiteboard land a lot harder when a kid feels the answer in their own legs. We’ll help you connect it back to whatever unit you’re on.
The learning
WHAT STUDENTS WALK AWAY WITH
Every session ties back to the same handful of ideas, presented differently each visit:
Force & Motion
Every push forward and every stop is Newton's laws playing out under their own two feet.
Friction
Wheels, floor surface, and speed all change how much grip they've got.
Momentum & Inertia
Getting going takes effort, stopping takes more, and it's easier to feel than to explain.
Energy
Potential energy turns into kinetic energy on every single lap around the floor.
Balance
Center of gravity and stability stop being an abstract idea the second they're upright.
Speed, Distance, Time
An easy way to tie in real math, with a stopwatch instead of a worksheet.
